The “Agroecology and Food Sovereignty for the Southern Mediterranean” (AMED) project aims to contribute to the food sovereignty of the countries of the Mediterranean basin by promoting peasant and family agriculture, which preserves the environment, values ​​the profession of peasant, contributes to resilience to climate change, and meets the consumption needs of populations.

In a context where the agricultural sector plays a key role in the economy of these countries but suffers from accelerated impoverishment, the effects of climate change and agricultural practices that are still largely destructive of living things, T&H wishes to provide concrete solutions to the challenges faced by local associations by carrying out in particular:

  • Strengthening the skills of partners (to carry out agroecology dissemination activities)
  • Developing “reference sites” in rural areas in order to improve the recognition of agroecology in the intervention areas
  • Developing a network around the Mediterranean to overcome the isolation of partners and to enable exchanges of knowledge and experiences between peers

Total duration of the project: 39 months (01/06/2021 – 31/08/2024)

Intervention locations: Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia

The evaluation will focus on the first phase of the AMED project (2021-2024) and will aim to assess the performance of this phase based on the OECD-DAC criteria as well as other cross-cutting and specific criteria.

The final external evaluation of the project aims to:

  1. i) Assess the relevance of the project in relation to the needs of the target groups and the internal and external coherence of the intervention, assess performance in terms of effectiveness and efficiency
  2. ii) Assess whether or not the cross-cutting themes of gender and youth integration have been taken into consideration by identifying obstacles, areas of vigilance and levers

iii) Assess the quality of the partnership

  1. iv) Identify improvements and recommendations for phase 2 of the project.
